Being healthy

Helping children to be healthy

We work proactively to ensure the health care needs of children and young people are effectively identified. This is supported by accessing appropriate health care resources for our children and young people, including specialist services, if required, to meet their health needs.

“we also saw examples where cooperative working had produced good outcomes for children.”
Care Inspectorate  2013

Our carers are expected to encourage children and young people to lead healthy lifestyles and we provide training and support to enable them to do this. Children and young people are given the opportunity to take part in a wide range of physical exercise in line with their individual needs.

“Young people told us they got healthy foods and could access many clubs and activities when living with their fostering family. This supported positive outcomes for children in relation to health.”
Care Inspectorate  2013

We provide further training for carers on a range of health issues, including self-harm, drug and alcohol awareness and first aid.
